How Much Does an Etna Tour Cost?
What a Mount Etna tour really costs: the listed price plus the cable car and 4x4 fees paid in cash on site, from the $40 crater walk to the $201 wine day.
A guided Etna tour lists at $40 to $201 a head, but on most summit and cable-car tours you also pay the cable car and 4x4 in cash on the day: the most reviewed summit hike is $62 plus €54 or €82.
That is the one thing to know before you compare prices. On many of the high tours, the listed price buys the guide; the cable car and the 4x4 ride are a separate ticket, €45 to €82 a head in the October 2026 listings. The low tours, by van or jeep to about 2,000 m, usually have nothing to pay on site.

What the on-site ticket is
On the south side, the cable car runs from Rifugio Sapienza to about 2,500 m, and 4x4 buses go on from there. Bought direct, a return cable car ticket is €54 adults and €31 children (to 10; under 5 free), and the “Tour 3000” ticket with 4x4 bus and guide is €82, as published for 2026. The tours that leave this to you are not hiding it; they say so in their exclusions, and several ask for cash. Ashàra’s listing says “cash only”, Aitne Med asks you to pay “in cash at our office”, and Etna Guides asks for cash “to speed up the check in operations”.
The amounts differ by tour because the tickets differ: a cable car alone, a cable car up with a 4x4, or the Unimog 4x4 both ways. Etna Guides’ €45 for cable car and 4x4 is lower than the €54 published for a cable car return bought direct, so confirm the figure with the operator when you book. Four Etna Touring listings do not state the amount at all.
Weather and the volcano can change the ticket on the day. Ashàra says that if the summit craters are closed, the tour continues to the maximum altitude “using only cable car (54€ per person)”. Sicilying keeps the right to change the means of transport used to reach the planned altitude.
What changes the price
In GetYourGuide’s catalogue in October 2026, the median Etna volcano tour costs about €69, and a few patterns move the price around it:
- Going to the summit on foot costs about a quarter more than a van tour with short walks. You are paying for an authorised guide above 2,500 m and a longer, harder day.
- Adding Taormina costs about 60% more; the longer transfer is part of what you pay for. See Etna from Taormina or Catania.
- Small groups cost about 13% more. Kemedia caps all four of its tours at 8; bdm caps its wine day at 8.
- Leaving the 4x4 to be paid on site makes a tour list about 17% cheaper. The cost moved; it did not vanish. Compare real totals, not listed prices.
- Pickup adds to the price. Etna Touring’s 3,000 m trek is $43 from the meeting point and $88 with pickup from Catania; both leave the cable car and jeep to be paid on site.
The cheapest way to each height
- About 2,000 m, everything included: Etna Est at $66 or Etna & Sea Excursions at $67, both from Catania. See Etna sunset tours and Etna jeep tours.
- About 2,100 m, north side: the 2002 craters trek at $40, if you can drive to Piano Provenzana. See Etna hiking tours.
- About 3,000 m: Etna Guides at $62 + €45, or Etna Touring at $43 plus a ticket it does not price. See Etna cable car tours.
- The summit craters: Sicilying at $62 + €82 for the 3,400 m option, when the craters are open. See Etna summit tours.
- A wine day: Noema’s half-day tasting from Taormina pickup points is $67; the full days with lunch run $107 to $201. See Etna wine tours.
Before you decide
